About Shane and Anna

Shane

My life's journey to this point has taken me to some beautiful places but nowhere is as enchanting as Tasmania.  As soon as I stepped of the Spirit of Tasmania I knew I was home.  I love driving around this magnificent state, with all its natural beauty and charm, discovering the out of the way places.  It seems that with every bend in the road there is something new to see, even if I have passed that point many times before.

I have had an interest in photography for most of my life but it is only recently that I have begun to explore my world through the lens.  I am now 37 and just beginning to discover what this world has in store for me.  The camera is a part of that and most times I can be seen wandering around with it around my neck or across my shoulder and quite often it is stuck to my face as I view the scenes before me through the viewfinder.   I like to mainly capture landscapes and find the overall scene to be most pleasing.  I will quite often take Panorama style images.  In saying that I also enjoy getting up close and personal and can be found bum in the air if something small catches my eye.

Most of my photographic experience has come through the hands on method but I completed a photography course when at high school where I learnt to shoot in black and white format as well as developing my own film.  I have also undertaken studies in  photography through the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).   This has taught me technical technique and helped me to understand the elements of  scenes  better.  I am a member of many photographic websites and I like to read through the forums and get new tips and techniques to try when using the camera.

I love to share what I see and I hope that the feeling I am experiencing at the time comes through in the beautiful vistas I shoot.

Anna

Just another wanderer, trying to make some sense out of this world. I have been alive far more years than I care to admit, and have always had a keen interest in capturing scenes through the lens. Ever since I can remember, there have always been images presenting themselves to my eye, that somehow had just the right light, shadow, or special feature, begging to be captured on film.

Currently I am enjoying small town life on the West Coast of Tasmania, having escaped the madness of city living in Sydney many years ago. When the choice exists between being surrounded by concrete, steel, and a couple of million people with all the associated smog and noise, or looking out my window at a snow capped mountain, surrounded by lush rainforests and birdsong, it is not a difficult choice to make. I love where I live, and would not consider returning to the city again.

Photographically speaking, my tastes are diverse. I love locating and capturing the smaller details in scenes, and you will find me searching through the undergrowth for mushrooms, fungus, and other interesting macro opportunities. I also enjoy capturing unique flowers, or even common flowers when they can be presented in a different perspective. Travelling throughout Tasmania, presents many different and diverse landscapes and other scenes that also simply cry out to be photographed, and I am rarely seen without a camera over my shoulder.

I have only had the opportunity to explore my interests in photography properly for about ten years now, and am constantly developing new skills and techniques. While I believe there is no better way to learn photography than to simply get out and shoot as often as possible, I have also undertaken photographic studies at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), where my tutors expressed a great deal of appreciation for my technique and imagery.

To me, a good shot is not about technical brilliance (though getting the technical aspect right does certainly help), but more about capturing the essence of the moment, and hopefully, sharing some of the emotion I felt through simply being there, and sharing the essence of the scene I found myself immersed within.
